We allegedly have ad removal enabled, but I can't tell because I've never had any to begin with.

I have on umpteen occasions been the 999999 visitor to the site and have won trips to the States, however they seemed to have disappeared which I hope is where they will stay.

I'm glad they've gone, but like I said I never had them.
They have been removed at great personal cost, and it will need paying out again. I think we only get 30,000 ad free hits or something at the extortionary outlay of $5.
I'll have my begging bowl out soon.....

Could sell advertising space on the site to local businesses and make a few quid to cover costs etc.

It's hosted for free with ads or we (or rather I) pay $5 every so often to be add free.
Putting up paid ads is a no-no.
